Mrs. Irene Finney Major Douglas was born on Dec. 26, 1944, a daughter to the late George Bell and the late Mary Finney. Her maternal grandparents, Arvil Byrd and Gracie Finney, raised her after the passing of her mother.
“Lil Irene” or “Red,” as she was affectionately known by family and friends, was called home to be with the Lord on Jan. 9, 2023, at Shore Health & Rehab Center in Parksley.
Red was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools. In 1964, she moved to Patterson, N.J., and worked for Lighting Pac Company until she retired in 2009.
On Sept. 14, 2009, she married her high school sweetheart, Roy Lee Douglas Sr. They shared 13 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on July 9, 2022.
Irene leaves to cherish her memories: four sons, Faheem Finney, William West, George West, and Charles Major; two step-children, Roy Douglas Jr. and Dana Douglas; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six sisters, Sara Corbin, Phyllis Garvin, Hallie Christopher, Ineta McLaughlin, Doretha West, and Lovone Bell; one brother-in-law, Richard Douglas; one sister-in-law, Sylvia Page; special niece, Mary Grace Kellam; special nephew, Darris White; devoted caregiver, Donald Veney; several special friends; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
