Mr. Johnny G. Abbott Jr., 72, of Parksley, answered the call to a peaceful eternal rest on January 4, 2023, in his home, upon his wishes.

Born in Mappsville, Johnny was the beloved son of the late Johnnie G. Abbott Sr. and the late Carrie A. Smith. He was affectionately known as “Dunk” or “Slade” by his family and friends.

He was educated in the Accomack County public school system. Johnny was employed at NASA in Wallops Island for over 30 years before he retired because of health issues. Even after his retirement, he was never the type to settle. He would find quick ways to make a hustle, whether it was moving furniture, landscaping, picking pecans, or mechanic work. He called himself the jack-of-all-trades.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 14, from First Baptist Church, Mappsville, with the Rev. Fred Crawley officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: his wife, Shirley; eight step-children; siblings, Dorothy Mitchell, Grace Byrd, Mary Garvin, Deborah Smith, Lillie Bailey, Barbara Abbott, Annette Cheney, Vandora Bateman, Rosie Warrington, Calvin Warrington, and Thomas Abbott; brothers-in-law, Walter Dickerson and John White; several special friends; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Arrangements were by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
