Mrs. Laura J. Duncan, 77, of Mappsville, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, in the comfort of her own home, surrounded with love.

Born in Nassawadox, Laura was the beloved daughter of the late John W. and Laura Strand. She was affectionately known as “Jackie” by her family and friends. She attended the public schools of Accomack County and was a graduate of Mary N. Smith High School.

Jackie was known for her excellent laborious work at Acme supermarket for 20-plus years, where she retired. She later joined the cafeteria team at Wallops Exchange and Association on the NASA base, where she labored for 15 years.

Jackie was a faithful member and servant at St. John’s United Methodist Church. During her tenure, you could always see her smiling face either on the second row or at the door ushering. Her first love was always the church.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 14, from St John’s U.M. Church, Atlantic, with the Rev. Gary Miller officiating.

Jackie leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Teresa D. Bunting; her son, Marvin E. Drummond; one sister, Kathryn S. Abney; one brother, J. Richard Strand; seven grandchildren; f ive bonus kids, Laurine White, Jermaine Duncan, Alex Duncan, Gregory Duncan, Jr., and Tyneka Flythe; 10 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Ivonnia Drummond; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Arrangements were by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
