Ponies Win Regional Semifinals

The Chincoteague Ponies varsity softball team was honored as the 2022 Eastern Shore District Champions this season for the first time 35 years. The Ponies continued their dominate season with a 9-1 win over Lancaster Tuesday, May 31, in the VHSL Class 1 Region A tournament. 

Alex McComb was dominate in the circle for the Ponies, throwing a complete seven-inning game. McComb allowed only one run on three hits with an impressive eight strikeouts. 

Emma Jackson had a day at the plate for Chincoteague, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run. Jackson recorded a total of four RBIs in the victory. McComb also saw the ball well in the game going 4-for-4 at bat with two doubles and a triple. Allie Bell, Sara Godwin, Lillie Matthews, Caity Kerchner, and Zulia Diaz each recorded two hits. The Ponies collected a total of 17 hits in the game.

The Ponies competed again Thursday, June 2, for the Regional Championship against Rappahannock. The Ponies also earned a bid into the Virginia State Softball Tournament.
