Vikings Baseball Team Pulls Off Comeback Win

The Broadwater Vikings varsity baseball team hosted Salisbury Christian School Tuesday, April 12. The Vikings won 12-11.

Salisbury built a 7-2 lead in the first inning and added three more runs to their lead over the next three innings. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Vikings’ offense put up seven runs, shrinking Salisbury’s lead to 10-9. During the next inning, a pair of singles by Quinn Ames and Logan Hickman when the bases were loaded gave the Vikings two more runs and their first lead of the game. Salisbury responded with another run in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 11. In the bottom of the seventh, Ames hit a ground ball that allowed Kolby Evans to score a walk-off run. 

Ames opened the game on the mound. Ames allowed no hits and gave up two runs. Will Petka pitched in relief. Petka allowed four hits, walked nine batters, and struck out seven. Rufus Abbott also pitched, giving up one hit, walking two batters, and striking out one.

Ames led the offense with three hits, four RBIs, and two runs. Brock Leland had three hits, two RBIs, and three runs. Caleb McIntyre, Evans, and Petka each earned two hits. Hickman and Abott each had one hit. 

The Vikings held another home game Wednesday, April 13, against Isle of Wight Academy and lost the matchup 24-1. On Tuesday, April 19, the Vikings will travel to Chincoteague for a rematch against the Ponies, who defeated the Vikings 14-12 earlier this season.
