Ponies Hold Off Vikings’ Comeback

The Chincoteague Ponies varsity baseball team traveled to Exmore to face the Broadwater Vikings Tuesday, March 29. The Ponies defeated the Vikings 14-12. The Ponies jumped out to a 10-0 lead within the first four innings. The Vikings mounted a comeback, scoring 12 runs over the next three innings, but ultimately came up short due to four more Pony runs and a scoreless seventh innng.

Wyatt Revell pitched the game for the Ponies, giving up 13 hits, walking one batter and striking out six. Kent Reed pitched in relief, giving up two hits, walking one batter and striking out three. Revell led the Ponies’ offense with three hits, three runs, and one RBI. John Holloway, Marcello Rosanova, Kent Reed, Jake Sneeringer, and Sam Pomerleau each earned one hit. Reed scored three runs. Sneeringer and Holloway each scored two runs. Rosanova, Logan Richardson, Tanner Binder, and Pomerleau each scored one run. 

For the Vikings, Quinn Ames started on the pitcher’s mound, giving up three hits, walking seven batters, and striking out seven. Kolby Evans, Will Petka, Carson Savage, and Rufus Abbott all pitched in relief. Petka and Brock Leland led the Vikings’ offense with four hits and two runs each. Logan Hickman and Ames earned two hits. Savage, Evans, Abbott, Olsen Pruitt, and Carter Nottingham each had one hit.

The Ponies’ next baseball game will be held on their home field Monday, April 4. They will face Holly Grove Christian School at 4:30 p.m. The Vikings hosted another home game Thursday, March 31, against Norfolk Collegiate School.
