Elthea H. Fletcher-Waters

Mrs. Elthea H. Fletcher-Waters, 96, of Wattsville, was called to her heavenly resting place Thursday, March 10, 2022, after a brief illness at Christiana Care Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington, Del.

Born in New Church, Elthea was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel Harmon. She was a graduate of Mary N. Smith High School. After high school, she entered cosmetology school, where she became a licensed beautician.

Elthea entered the workforce at Bird’s Eye Foods in Pocomoke City, Md., where she retired after 20 years of service. In 1965, she gained employment with the Accomack County Public Schools and dedicated 40 years of faithful service. She also did hair until the late hours of the night.

She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, now New Beginnings U.M. Church, in Wattsville. Elthea worked there faithfully in several capacities. She will be remembered as the oldest member of the church.

On Jan. 25, 1950, she married her sweetheart, Sewell S. Fletcher. They were married for 28 years.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 19, 2022, at New Beginnings U.M. Church, with the Rev. Harold E. White Sr. officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

She leaves to cherish precious and lasting memories, two children, Elridge M. Fletcher and Adonica K. Wilson; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; special niece, Benita Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Arrangements are by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
