The Northampton Yellow Jackets girls varsity soccer team opened its 2022 season Monday, March 14. The Yellow Jackets hosted the Middlesex Chargers and won the matchup 7-1.

The first 40 minutes of regulation ended with the Yellow Jackets leading 2-1. In the second half, the Yellow Jackets’ offense kicked it into high gear and outscored the Chargers 5-0 to win the game. Jacqueline Santos earned four goals and two assists. Ryan Jones had one goal and three assists. Vashti Holmes and Rocio Cruz each earned one goal and one assist.

Head coach Ernest Bethel was pleased with the Yellow Jackets’ performance. “We started off a little slower than I wanted to,” he said. “But we had great success with through balls and we have a lot of speed up front that helps.”

Bethel also saw room for improvement during the game. “We definitely need to work on placement of the ball,” he said. “In the first half, we had nine shots on goal and only made two goals. Our next game is West Point. We definitely have to make each shot count to win.”
