Mr. Samuel L. Fletcher Sr., 88, of New Church, peacefully transitioned from his earthly realm to his heavenly home Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, at his daughter Sandra’s home in Oak Hall.
Born in Minoa, Va., Samuel was the son of the late Luther E. and Ella V. Fletcher. Samuel was affectionately known by many loving names by his family and friends. He was employed at Campbell Soup Inc. in Pocomoke City, Md., as a head cook.
He was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord. He attended Mt. Zion Independent Methodist Church until his health began to decline.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at the Mt. Zion Independent Methodist Church, Withams, with the Rev. Michael O. Press Sr. officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery in Withams.
Sam leaves to cherish his fond memories: his seven children, Samuel Fletcher Jr., Shirley VaRence, Patricia Press, Cornelius Fletcher, Ivory Fletcher, Sandra Fletcher, and Pamela Townsend; one sister, Josephine Douglas; 13 grandchildren, one granddaughter whom he raised as his own, LaToya Press; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
