George Arthur Greenlaw


YN1 George Arthur Greenlaw, USN (Retired), 84, husband of Grace Beatrice Cramer “Bea” Greenlaw and a resident of Parksley, passed away at home Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022. He was formerly of Virginia Beach and was a native of Maine.

Born May 16, 1937, he was the son of the late Myrtie Loveland, and graduated from Jonesport High School (1955) in Jonesport, Maine. A month after high school graduation, George joined the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1985 after faithfully serving his country for 30 years. He was a member of the national American Legion, including Post #100 in Parksley, and several military groups and organizations during his career.

George was a workaholic throughout his life. He also enjoyed watching television, especially sports, and his favorite teams, the Atlanta Braves and Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball.

In addition to his wife of 66 years, Bea, survivors include two sons, Lawrence Michael “Larry” Greenlaw Sr., of Norfolk, and Thomas George Greenlaw Sr.; a grandson who George and Bea adopted, Thomas George Greenlaw Jr., and grandson, Lawrence Michael “Mike” Greenlaw Jr.; a great-granddaughter, Sierra Caitlin Greenlaw; and a great-grandson. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by a daughter, Vicki-Lynne Greenlaw.

No public services will be held.
