Yellow Jackets Come Up Short Against Surry County Cougars

The Northampton Yellow Jackets varsity boys basketball team hosted the Surry County Cougars Monday, Dec. 13. The Yellow Jackets lost 68-59.

The Yellow Jackets fell into a 10-0 hole early in the game. They battled back into the game to briefly take a 13-11 lead. The Cougars responded with a layup to tie the score and quickly stacked up a 5-point lead. By halftime, the Yellow Jackets trailed 29-17.

The Yellow Jackets’ offense displayed more life in the second half. By the fourth quarter, the Cougar’s lead had been shortened to 49-45. The comeback proved to be brief. Throughout the rest of the quarter, the Yellow Jackets were outscored 19-14.

Ellajah Miller had 18 points, 14 rebounds, and one assist. Jaylen Anderson had 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Quayshawn Washington had 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Mekhi Spady had 8 points. Ronrico Bugg had 6 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals. Ronyell Coston had 4 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Devin Thornton had 2 points.
