Staff Report – A single vehicle accident in Cheriton this morning left one person dead and another hospitalized, according to a Virginia State Police press release.
The Eastern Shore 911 center received a call at approximately 8:20 a.m. reporting the accident on North Bayside Road in Cheriton, east of Route 13.
Antoinette Young, 29, was driving a 2010 Nissan Rogue, traveling westbound on North Bayside Road when the vehicle crossed the double solid lines into the eastbound lanes, ran off the roadway, and struck a utility pole.
The passenger, the driver’s mother, Michelle Deval Young, 52, of Banks Road, Cape Charles, died upon impact. Antoinette Young was medevaced to Norfolk Sentara Hospital.
Neither vehicle occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The investigation of the accident is ongoing.
Notification was made to family members.
