Mrs. Josephine Elizabeth Hurdle, 92, of Chincoteague Island, went to be with the Lord Jan. 15, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Delmar, Md.
She was born in Indian Head, Md., Nov. 22, 1926, to the late Paul and Josephine Gray Austin. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Hurdle is survived by her son, H. Austin Smith and his wife, Teresa, of Chincoteague; daughter, Jane E. Castle, of Delmar, Md.; six grandsons: Paul White and his friend, Billie, of North Carolina, Patrick Smith and his wife, Olha, of Salisbury, Md., Jon Smith and his wife, Maria, of Chincoteague, Robert Tabor and his wife, Annie, of Norfolk, Jason Raven and his wife, Soraya, of Florida, and Jeremiah Raven, of New York; two granddaughters, Beth Kaminski and her husband, John, and Jackie Tucker and her husband, Josh, of Gloucester, Va.; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert R. Hurdle; daughter, Rebecca Raven and her husband, Howard; and son-in-law, David Castle.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at noon with a visitation an hour prior, from 11 a.m. to noon, at the Christ United Methodist Church, Chincoteague, with the Pastor Joe Carson officiating.
Burial will take place in the John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery in Temperanceville.
