Mr. John Philip Sokel, 76, a resident of Exmore, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock. A native of Southampton, N.Y., he was the son of the late Stanley Thomas Sokel and the late C. Mildred Capazzola. Mr. Sokel was a retired building contractor and heavy machine operator.
He is survived by his loving companion, Irene Marshall Collins, of Exmore; two daughters, Jodie Sokel and her companion, Robert Bundick, of Exmore, and Jamie Sokel Moore and her husband, Billy, of Belle Haven; 12 grandchildren: Jordan Sokel, Robert Bundick Jr., Hannah Moore, Mariah Moore, Chandler Hart, Grayson Blevins, Allison Shockley, Haylee Blevins, Charlotte Collins, Quinn Blevins, Max Collins, and Riley Theodoris; two great-grandchildren, Brantley Bundick and Liam Bundick; and a great-grandson due in June.
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 23, 2019, at Doughty Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Cobb officiating. Interment followed in Belle Haven Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wildlife ER, P. O. Box 145, Jamesville, VA 23398.
