By Linda Cicoira — The driver of a car that crashed Friday on Nelsonia Road died at the scene, according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the state police.

Julia Marie Vermeal, 28, of Adelaide Street in Parksley, was going east, in a 1999 Ford Escort, when she ran off the road, “overturned in a ditch and came to rest against a utility pole.”

Two passengers, Joseph Vermeal, 27, of Onley, and Robert Donovan, 24, of Parksley, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. Anaya reported the passengers were not wearing seatbelts. “Alcohol does not appear to be a factor,” she added.

A spokesperson for the Eastern Shore 9-1-1 Center said the incident occurred at 5:19 a.m. Fire and rescue crews from Bloxom and Parksley responded.
