Mr. Marcie William Evans, 81, husband of Sue Taylor Evans and lifelong resident of Saxis, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, at his home.
Born May 16, 1937, in Saxis, he was a son of the late Leland Thomas Evans and Lois Chase Evans.
Mr. Evans’ love for the water began at a young age as he worked alongside his father. For most of his life he remained a waterman, owning and operating Marcie Evans Seafood. After decades of running his business, he began working as a full-time security officer for Sea Watch International, formerly Eastern Shore Seafood.
A collector of many things, Mr. Evans enjoyed searching for hidden treasures at yard sales and flea markets and was especially proud of his stockpile of King Syrup cans. He loved model boats, decoys, and all things relating to his passion for the water. Above all else, he adored his family and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by his four children, Tony Dean Evans, of Salisbury, Md., Victor William Evans, of Sanford, Michelle Evans Marshall, of Chincoteague Island, and Jenna Evans Redmond and husband, Ian, of Atlantic; three grandchildren, Victor William Evans II, Mason Maxwell Marshall, and Alexis Taylor Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Homer Gerald Evans.
To honor Mr. Evans’ wishes, no public service will be held.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Saxis Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 98, Saxis, VA 23427.
