Mr. Donald Barkman, 81, of Greenbackville, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, after battling cancer for several years. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Dec. 15, 1936, to the late Frank and Helen Anderson Barkman.
Mr. Barkman was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Army. His career included positions in pharmaceutical sales, mutual funds sales and several years in claims with State Farm Insurance. Post-retirement, he enjoyed working for airline transportation. He was active in both the American Legion and the Cursillo movement in Youngstown, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pa., and cherished his family. He was very active in St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church.
Mr. Barkman is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ellen; three daughters, Kristen Kloss (David), of Indianapolis, Ind., Amelia Fiser (Erich), of Papillion, Neb., and Paula Sebastian (Joseph), of Portland, Ore.; two sons, Karl Barkman (Linda), of Aliquippa, Pa., and Thomas Barkman, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a brother, Edward Bernhard (Mary Kay), of Pittsburgh, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be offered Nov. 17, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 6288 Church St., Chincoteague Island, VA 23336. Interment of Ashes will follow the mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations, if desired, can be made to Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA.
