Mr. Phillip Merwin “Phil” Belote Sr., 64, husband of Tammy Louise Belote and a resident of Parksley, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, with his loved ones at his side.

Born March 16, 1954, in Nassawadox, he was a son of the late Vernon Hundley Belote and Madeline Georgie Tyndall Belote. Mr. Belote had a lifelong passion for cars, which was evident in his career and hobbies. For many years, he worked at Chandler’s Car Corral Inc., and in 1994, he became owner and operator of Phil’s Auto Body. Mr. Belote was well known for his meticulous auto body skills, and he took great pride in his work. Though there were few places he’d rather be than in his body shop, he also enjoyed going to car shows and never passed up an opportunity to ride around. Without a doubt, he’d be proud to say, “I did it my way.”

In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his three children, Phillip Merwin Belote Jr., of Hallwood, Carla Reneé Smith, of Florida, and Justin Ray Belote, of Parksley; stepdaughter, Tanya Brooks, of Accomac; stepson, Edward Brooks, of Virginia Beach; sisters, Teresa Shrieves, of Parksley, and Sonia Johnson and husband, Phillip, of Southside Chesconnessex; grandchildren, Elizabeth Reneé Belote, Phillip Merwin Belote III, Hailey Jade Belote, Kevin Lee Belote, Kayla Margaret Louise Colonna, Shawn Michael Colonna, and Ethan Taylor; one niece and one nephew; and last, but not least, his two fur babies, Lady and Maxie. Other than his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Carla Reneé Belote; sisters, Barbara Beasley and Kay Jones; and brother, Junior Belote.

Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Aug. 8, 2018, with the Rev. Alan Layman officiating. Interment followed in the Onancock Cemetery.
