Title: The Cakemaker (2017)
Country: Israel/Germany
Language(s): Hebrew/German/English
Summary: The story begins in a small, tidy German café/bakery. Oren, a bearded Israeli engineer who visits Berlin occasionally, discusses the displayed cakes and pastries with Thomas, the helpful young and talented German baker working behind the counter. A tender, tactile and just-sweet-enough story of hidden love, challenged faith and unwittingly shared grief. That story is both convincing and quietly moving, a tale of emotional journeys and trials and the challenge of starting anew after tragedy. And it won’t surprise you to know that the director is a chef.
