ESO’s The Nutcracker Returns to the Stage!

In the late autumn evenings at ESO Arts Center, the familiar sound of Tchaikovsky echoes through the halls of the 100-year-old school building. With the cool fall weather, the rehearsals intensify as does the anticipation for opening night. In the costume shop the racks are overflowing with tulle, and hands are busy are sewing, steaming, and tagging shimmering costumes. The dancers arrive and line the staircases waiting for their time to be called to the studio. Some arrive early enough to watch the tail end of the previous class cast in a role they have previously danced as a younger dancer to music they know well enough to hum, filling the air with the extra cozy nostalgia of Nutcrackers past. In its 31st year of production The Nutcracker has become a timeless holiday tradition on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Come enjoy this marvelous production that is the only one of its kind in the area. The Nutcracker performances will place on Sunday, December 19, at 2pm in the Nandua High School Auditorium. Tickets must be reserved in the ESO Office or by calling 757-442-3226. All attendees must wear a mask and adhere to the VDH COVID-19 Guidance for School Performing Arts Programs.
