Chincoteague Island Library Offers Meeting to Survey Community Computer and Technology Needs

September 24, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The Chincoteague Island Library is planning an open session for members of the community to determine areas of need for computer training.  The session will be held September 24 at 4:00 at the library.
Based on the outcome the Library is planning to offer small group training sessions on technology topics starting in October.  We have gotten a small grant from United Way to begin our program and would like to get off to a strong start.  The initial meeting in September will help us determine the areas of interest for the members of the community.
Some possible topics include Computer basics, eBooks, Social networking, Genealogy, Internet Basics, Online Resources, Smartphone photography, word processing, spreadsheets and more.  There will be a heavy emphasis on computer security.  What would YOU like to learn?  Stop in to let the library know your interests and needs
“The use of computers has become a way of life in the modern world, making it important for just about everyone to learn basic computer skills,” notes Linda Ryan, president of the Chincoteague Island Library Board of Directors.   She adds “It is a critical part of the library’s mission statement to provide community members training to complete life learning tasks many of us take for granted. It might be researching a health condition, connecting to loved ones online, looking up new recipes, or applying for a job. The purpose of the meeting is to find out what our community members want and need to do that require basic computer skills.”
If you cannot attend the meeting and would like to share your thoughts, forms will be available at the library.  You can also call the library or send a message through Facebook.
The Chincoteague Island Library is located at 4077 Main Street in Chincoteague. For more information about the program or to sign up call the Library at 757-336 – 3460, check the Chincoteague Island Library Facebook page or web site.  Advance sign up is not required but will help with preparation and planning.
