The Eastern Shore lost a true native son on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026.
Mr. Mark Bishop, 50, passed away peacefully in Virginia Beach, surrounded by his friends.
Mark was a beloved son, brother, nephew, father, uncle, and cousin, and he was one of the most loyal friends anyone could have. A kind and gentle soul to everyone he met, Mark loved to be with friends sharing good times and spending quality time with his son and stepson.
Mark is survived by his son, Beau, and stepson, Guy Hall, both from Hawaii; his mother and father, Ann and Eddie Bishop; his sister, Leslie Pruitt Parks; his niece, Rachel Pruitt; and his great-niece, Sadie White, all of Pungoteague; his uncle, Donnie Bishop, of Virginia Beach; and his niece and nephew from Salisbury, Md., Beth Wilson and Doug Wilson.
Mark rose through the ranks to become a highly respected tug captain at The Vane Brothers Company in Baltimore, where he began his career in 1999 and worked for 27 years. Mark quickly earned a reputation amongst his colleagues and subordinates as being highly competent, honest to a fault, and fair to all who worked under his command.
Mark had a gentle, unassuming demeanor and big shoulders that enabled him to overcome the trials of life without bitterness or loss of warmth. He was a strong, solid rock that everyone could count on in trying times. Tested and calm, you knew you were in good hands when Mark had the watch.
Mark had lived in Virginia Beach since 1999, but he never washed the Eastern Shore mud from between his toes, and he cherished the friends and family who still call it home.
He will be sorely missed by all.
A celebration of life was held at Holloman Brown Funeral Home, 3445 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456, on Aug. 9 at 1 p.m.
