Eastern Shore History

On July 9, 1963, two small boys found the body of a small baby while playing in a row boat on property in the Mount Prospect area of Onancock. Deputy Thorburn Parks, who investigated the incident, reported that the boys saw a large tin can floating in the creek around 7 p.m. and brought the can into the boat. Upon opening the can they discovered the small body. The county coroner was unable to determine the race or maturity of the baby and ordered an autopsy.

On July 9, 1936, Accomack County Superintendent of Schools Henry A. Wise announced that 225 pupils in the school system were neither absent nor tardy during the recently completed school year. Henry Hussey, of Parksley High School, completed eight years of perfect attendance.
