Deputy Thorburn Parks, who investigated the incident, reported that the boys saw a large tin can floating in the creek around 7 p.m. and brought the can into the boat. Upon opening the can they discovered the small body. The county coroner was unable to determine the race or maturity of the baby and ordered an autopsy.
