Mrs. LaRaine Lewis Bowles, 73, of Chincoteague Island, passed away on June 3, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones.

LaRaine was born on March 28, 1953, in Pennsylvania, to the late John and Kathryn Lewis.

LaRaine was predeceased by both her parents; her sisters, Diann and Debbie; her husband, James Bowles; and her faithful companion, Jesse James.

LaRaine is survived by her daughter, Crystal Fisher; her grandson, Zack Fisher; her sisters, Linda Meyers, of Seaford, Del., and Ramona Birch, of Chincoteague; her brother, George Lewis, of Winchester; her brother-in-law, Willis Dize, of Chincoteague; her stepdaughter, Laura Hackney, of Newport News; her stepson, Jonathan Bowles, of Chesapeake; several nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Kathy Savage, Tammy Mitchell, and Robby Fisher; as well as numerous others who were part of her life.

LaRaine was a retired postmaster of 27½ years, a Chincoteague police dispatcher for 14 years, a dispatcher at NASA for several years, and a part-time cashier and food prepper at Capt. Zack’s Seafood — the job she loved to hate!

LaRaine was a member of the Accomack Chapter #62 Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She loved spending time at the beach or pool with friends, music, and dancing. LaRaine enjoyed gardening and always had something cooking to share with the whole neighborhood.

The funeral service was held on June 10 at 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church in Chincoteague. In lieu of flowers, donations in LaRaine’s memory can be made to Riverside Hospice Care of the Eastern Shore, P.O. Box 615, Onley, VA 23418.

Services were entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., on Chincoteague Island. Condolences may be made online at www.salyerfh.com
