The Eastern Shore of Virginia Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, in recognition of Flag Day, presented an American flag to an Accomack County teacher for her classroom.
The flag was given to Kathy Henley, a fifth grade teacher at Accawmacke Elementary School.
Henley’s classroom had gone without an American flag for over a year, and she felt it was important and necessary that her classroom have a flag, especially as America is celebrating its semiquincentennial. Flag Day is also coming up on June 14.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded to preserve the memory and spirit of those who contributed to securing American independence.
Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.
