Amanda Reed

Aug 29, 2025 | Obituaries

Mrs. Amanda Evelyn Marshall Reed, 84, beloved wife of the late Ronald Wayne “Ronnie” Reed, and a resident of DeLand, Fla., formerly of Onancock, passed away peacefully at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 23, 2025, at AdventHealth Hospital in Daytona Beach, Fla. Born Oct. 6, 1940, in Crisfield, Md., she was the daughter of the late George Maurice Marshall and Gladys Evans Marshall.

Soon after graduating from Crisfield High School, Amanda moved to Virginia and began working as a switchboard operator with C&P Telephone Company. She remained dedicated to her career as C&P transitioned to Verizon, and she later transferred to the engineering department, retiring after 35 years.

Amanda was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to all. She enjoyed cooking and playing bingo, but she especially treasured time spent with family.

Left to cherish her memory are her grandson, PJ Sharpley (who she loved and cared for like a son) and his wife, Andy; her niece and nephews, Anna Davis, Roland Somers (Carol), Linwood Smack Jr. (Michelle), and Mike Reed; and her stepdaughter, Diane Reed; as well as many other extended family members.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, B.F. Denston; her brother, Maurice L. Marshall; her sister, Marian M. Smack; her nephew, Junior Jones; and her nephew-in-law, Gary Davis Sr.

Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, in Onancock, on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Bill McClung officiating.
