Mr. Samuel Berkley “Sam Boy” Williams Jr., 71, husband of Patricia “Patty” Bell Williams, passed away at his home in Exmore on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025.
Born Nov. 5, 1953, in Nassawadox, and raised in Deep Creek, he was the son of the late Samuel B. Williams Sr. and Madeline Dryden Williams.
From the time he could pull a pot, Sam Boy was often out crabbing in the creek. He was never afraid of a hard day’s work, and after retiring his waterman boots, Sam operated a grass cutting business for several years.
He was a longtime member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Jamesville who loved the Lord, adored his family — both two- and four-legged members, and was always grateful for the simple things in life.
In addition to his wife of nearly 41 years, Sam is survived by his daughter, Patricia Louise Stevens, of Salisbury, Md.; his sister, Sandra Lee Williams (Santiago), of Mappsville; his brother, Beverly Denston (Teresa), of Deep Creek; his sister-in-law, Yvonne Denston, of Melfa; his grandchildren, David “D.J” Porter Jr. (Libby), Samantha Watkins, Jonathon Davis, Christopher Stevens (Olivia), and Jessica Stephens; his great-grandchildren, Ian Watkins, Damien Stevens, and Eva Porter; and several nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents, Sam was predeceased by his infant daughter, Samantha Williams, and brother, Ronald Lee “Ronnie” Denston Sr.
Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Annette Austin officiating. Interment followed in the Onancock Cemetery. There was a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Contributions in Sam’s memory may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 224, Jamesville, VA 23398.
