Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth Evans entered into eternal bliss on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, after 100 years of a rich and fulfilling life. She was born July 9, 1923, and was a lifelong resident of Onancock.
Catherine graduated from Onancock High School, class of 1940, where she played the violin in the school band. She grew up attending Onancock Baptist Church with her family and remained a member for most of her life, having volunteered in the nursery for 30 years. In 2012 she became a member of Onley Baptist Church. Catherine loved the Lord and was grateful for her church families. She loved life and cherished every moment spent with loved ones.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ruby and Tom Elliott; her husband of 63 years, S. Royce Evans; brother- and sister-in-law, Bill and Doris Elliott; and great-grandson, Steven Payne.
She is survived by her brother, Edward Elliott (Mary Alice); children, Betty Howell and Damon Evans (Janet); grandchildren, Maggie Hickman (Bill), Andy Howell (Sandy), Jackie Dickson (Mike), and John Harden (Tamarah); great-grandchildren, Katie Chisholm (Lee), Drew Howell (Jamie), Josh Howell (Shaina), Samantha Howell, Daniel Hickman, Ashley Macaioni, Adam Shenk (Brittany), and Dylan Oleson (Lauren); 11 great-great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces.
Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at 11 a.m., with the Reverend John Burr officiating. Private interment was held in the Mount Holly Cemetery.
