Mrs. Barbara J. Kambarn, 79, passed away peacefully at home on May 30, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Feb. 14, 1944, in Salisbury, Md., and was the oldest daughter of the late Joseph Stanley (Buck) Jackson and the late Naomi Hill Jackson.

Barbara is survived by the love of her life and husband of 64 years, Jackie C. Kambarn; two sisters, Susie Santiano (Jess) of Pocomoke City, Md., and Sarah Jester (Barry) of Greenbackville; nephew, Danny Santiano (Vanessa) of Shingle Springs, Calif.; niece, Lauralyn Geiser (Roman) of Berlin, Md.; great-nephews, Gabe, Graham, and Gavin Geiser, and Quinn Santiano; and great-niece Olivia Santiano.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Alice Kambarn.

Barbara graduated from Chincoteague High School in 1963 and was the salutatorian of the class. She was employed by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where she worked in the library at NASA. For many years she and her husband owned and operated the Anchor Inn Motel on Chincoteague Island until they retired.

Until seven years ago when Barbara suffered a stroke, she loved to travel, garden, and was an avid reader. She enjoyed her nights reading a good book with a glass of wine. She also loved to volunteer at the library on Chincoteague and read to the students at Chincoteague Elementary School. For the past six years, Barbara enjoyed spending time with her friend, caregiver, and earth angel, Virginia (Ginny) Jowanowitch.

Barbara was looked to as the leader of her family and the glue that held everyone together. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Chincoteague. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church at 6319 Mumford St., Chincoteague, VA 23336, or Foodbank of Eastern Shore 24530 Coastal Blvd., Onley, VA 23418.
