Mr. Douglas Alvin Gillespie, 80, of Bloxom, husband of the late Celestine Jeanette Gillespie, passed away on Sept. 27, 2026, in Parksley.

Born on Feb. 8, 1946, in Saltville, he was the son of the late Charles Edward Gillespie and Elsie Roberts Gillespie. 

Douglas worked as an inspector for the Virginia Department of Agriculture for many years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and grew many varieties of roses for his late wife, Celestine. Douglas had a good heart and a feisty, outspoken personality.

Douglas is survived by two daughters, Amanda Lynn Gillespie (Levin), of Bloxom, and Anna Marie Crockett (Charles), of Harborton; his grandchildren, Allen Crockett (Bailey), Sarah Crockett, Elizabeth Crockett, Philip Gillespie (Mary Elliott), Allison Gillespie, and Landon Shelton; his great-grandson, Philip Douglas “PJ” Gillespie Jr.; his brothers, Larry Gillespie, of Saltville, and David Gillespie, of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Celestine Jeanette Gillespie; his grandson, Walter Crockett; and his siblings, Jerry Gillespie and Brenda Gillespie.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. from the Thornton Funeral Home, with George Fulk officiating.

Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
