Mrs. Frances P. Rasmussen, 85, of Ashland, Ohio, formerly of Machipongo, passed away on Wednesday evening, Sept. 9, 2026, in the Kingston of Ashland.
She was born on Nov. 26, 1940, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Bernard and Gladys (née Bush) Schmidt.
Frances married Stewart Rasmussen on June 26, 1965.
She retired from the U.S. Army after more than 20 years of service.
Frances was a devoted member of King Road Christian Church, Eastern Star, Eagles Club, and the American Legion. She enjoyed working on word puzzles, reading books, and watching both murder mysteries and “Jeopardy.”
She is survived by her loving son, Thomas Rasmussen, of Ashland; two grandchildren, Brandon and Emily; four siblings, Marcelle Bragg, of Ashland, Mary Scarbro, of Tennessee, David Schmidt, of Ashland, and Pauline (Larry) Aulger, of Ashland.
In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart, who passed away on Sept. 29, 2000; two siblings, Ruth Ann (William) Miller and Eugene (Donna) Schmidt; and her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, James Bragg, Douglas Scarbro, and Trudy Schmidt.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home, with Pastor Rich Pate presiding. The Ashland Veterans Honor Guard conducted full military honors. Family and friends visited two hours prior to the service from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A meal and time of fellowship was available in the Legacy Room throughout visitation. Interment was in the Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper.
