Mrs. Betsy Ann Potts, born on Dec. 12, 1940, peacefully passed away, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who loved her dearly.

Born to the late Eliza and Leslie Martin, Betsy was raised with six brothers and one sister, all of whom preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lloyd Potts, who passed away in 1982, and her son, Mickey Wessels, who passed away in 2016.

Betsy is survived by her loving daughter/niece, Dawn Henley and her husband, Mark, as well as Dawn’s cherished children, Kristen, Lauren, and Corben. She also leaves behind many caring nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever treasure her memory.

Originally from Saxis Island, Betsy spent much of her life in Chincoteague, where she became well-known through her years of cooking at Don’s Seafood Restaurant. She took pride in preparing meals for countless locals and visitors, sharing her warmth and kindness through her cooking.

In her later years, Betsy was a long-term resident of Shore Health & Rehabilitation Center, where she was cared for with compassion and dignity.  Dawn would like to extend her heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, aides, and staff for the love, friendship, and exceptional care they provided Ma Betsy throughout the years. Their kindness brought comfort to the family.

A graveside service celebrating Betsy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19, at John Taylor Cemetery in Temperanceville.
