Mrs. Betsy Whittington Binswanger, loving wife of Millard Binswanger for 44 years, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at her home in Richmond.

She was the daughter of the late John Jay and Mary Elizabeth “Spooks” Whittington.

Betsy grew up in Nassawadox on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and was in the first graduating class of Broadwater Academy.

Following her graduation from Averett College, she moved to Richmond, where she taught school and met and married Millard. Betsy and Millard made countless friends during winters on Sanibel Island and while enjoying summers on Sarah Creek.

Along with Millard, Betsy is survived by Millard’s daughter, Ellen Binswanger (David), whose love and support have been a tremendous help during Betsy’s illness; her sister, Suzanne Ames (Paige); her brother, Jay Whittington; her niece, Kelly Warren (Ty); her nephews, Tyler Ames (Gina), John Whittington (Kate), and Scott Whittington (Ellen); her sister-in-law, Ann Stern; and her grandchildren, Alex Church (Emily), Adam Church (Grace), and Hunter Nolan.

She was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Sharon Whittington; and her brother, Bill Whittington.

Her burial will be private. The family invited friends to a celebration of life at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, at Salisbury Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Richmond SPCA or Massey Cancer Center.
