Mr. George Richard Heinrichs, born on Oct. 2, 1936, in New York, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Feb. 4, 2026, in Virginia Beach, at the remarkable age of 89. George was the son of Charlotte and George E. Heinrichs.

George was a dedicated auditor for Perkins Elmer, where he worked diligently and earned the respect of his colleagues. Known for his keen eye for detail and unwavering integrity, he was a cornerstone of the organization throughout his career.

A man of many passions, George found joy in traveling the world, listening to the timeless beauty of classical music, and spending serene days as a recreational boater. His adventures and cultural pursuits left an indelible mark on all who knew him, inspiring a love of life and discovery.

An active and devout member of the Naomi Makemie Presbyterian Church in Onancock, George also contributed significantly to the Christian Businessmen’s Association. His faith was a guiding light in his life, leading him to extend his generosity and kindness to others. George was well-known for his charitable efforts, helping those in need by assisting with taxes and donating countless hours to Habitat for Humanity. His selfless dedication to his community will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure to work alongside him.

After graduating from Pelham High School in Pelham, N.Y., George went on to attend Rutgers University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering. Shortly after completing his college education, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a flag officer aboard the admiral’s warship with the Sixth Fleet, spending several years stationed in Mediterranean waters. His education and military service laid a strong foundation for a life devoted to learning and service.

He is fondly remembered by his family, including his beloved sister, Charlotte Elizabeth Sell, who survives him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Marilyn Louise Lasch, and his first wife, Natasha Afanassieff.

George is survived by his beloved wife, Wilma Motley; and his cherished stepchildren, Annemarie Edgar (Shawn), of Onancock; Kathrine Hunt (Thomas), of Stockton, N.J.; and Joan Motley-Oren (William), of Virginia Beach. He leaves behind a proud legacy through his grandchildren, William P. Edgar (Angie), Johanna Burkart (Chris), Rebecca Hearns, Annaliese Hearns, Leah Hunt, and James Hunt; as well as his great-grandchildren: Carter Edgar, William S. Edgar, and Quinn Edgar.

His memory will also live on in the hearts of his nieces and nephews, David Sell, Gail Uphoff, Karen Jeanne Sheley, Mark Blasch, Lois Van Cura, Marjorie Muir, William Blasch, John Blasch, Barbara Rohloff, and Nancy Butler.

George will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of those around him. His spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.

The family is planning to celebrate the life of George in the early spring and will announce dates at a later time.
