Mrs. Jean Duer Drummond passed away on Jan. 14, 2026, at the age of 82, in Groveland, Fla., where she resided with her husband, Roy, until his passing in August 2025.
Born in Nassawadox on Oct. 15, 1943, she was the eldest child of the late Abel Constant Duer III and the late Dorothy Sowers Duer. Jean grew up on the family farms, first near Shields and then in Scarboroughs Neck near Davis Wharf. She graduated from Central High School in Painter and attended two years of college at Averett University in Danville.
After marrying Roy and leaving the Eastern Shore, the couple moved to Ocean View, and then eventually they moved and lived on the beach. Later, they settled in South Miami, Fla., and lived there for many years. Jean was employed at Florida Power and Light as an executive secretary until her retirement.
After both had retired, Jean and Roy traveled in “The Bus” across the nation for many years, ranging from Alaska to Mexico and numerous states in between. They made many friends as they traveled. They loved their time on the road together, along with a pet Jack Russell Terrier, making many happy adventures.
Jean is survived by her sister, Kerry Duer Klein and her husband, Nick; her brother, Abel Constant Duer IV and his wife, Lesa; her nephews, John Klein (Diane), Kevin Klein (Jennifer), David R. Drummond (Sandy), and R. Earl Drummond (Beverly); her nieces, K.K. Klein, Darcie Duer (Avery Skees), and Amanda Duer Rouelle (Eric); and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Interment will be in her grandfather Abel Constant Duer Jr.’s plot in Belle Haven Cemetery. A celebration of life for Jean and Roy will be held in the spring.
