Mrs. Anne Byrd Godwin, age 89, widow of David King Godwin, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, at her home in Onancock.
Born on June 26, 1936, in Mears, she was the daughter of the late Evelyn Chesser Byrd and Thomas Milton Byrd.
In addition to being a homemaker, Anne enjoyed working as a lower school aide at Broadwater Academy, in retail at Glick’s of Four Corners, and at the Virginia Welcome Center in New Church.
She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Parksley for many years.
She is survived by her daughter Anne (Anny) Godwin Kellam and son-in-law, John Harris Kellam, of Onancock; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Grimminger (Greg), Anne Parker Kellam Murphy (Troy), and Meridith Clarke Kellam; and two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Hunter Grimminger.
In addition to her husband and parents, Anne was predeceased by her son, Milton “Byrd” Godwin, and her grandson, David Reynolds Godwin.
A graveside service was conducted on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. from the Parksley Cemetery, with Pastor George Fulk officiating.
