Mrs. Patricia “Bugs” Cherrix Raw, 87, of Chincoteague, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 17, 2025.
Born on the eastern side in Chincoteague on June 8, 1938, she was one of six children born to the late Arthur “Soapbox” and Geneva Cherrix. She was also predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Jonathan Raw, and her infant brother, Allen Wayne Cherrix.
She was a devoted member of Union Baptist Church, Esther Bible Class, and the Chancellor Choir and a member of the Accomack Chapter #62 Order of the Eastern Star.
Known for her fun-loving personality, Bugs was the life of the party and will be fondly remembered for her famous peanut butter fudge. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
Bugs is survived by her two daughters, Mary Esther (Arthur) and Julie Young, both of Chincoteague; four grandchildren, Cynthia Wilder, Hunter (Rebekah) Leonard, Ayden (Katie) Leonard, and Jonathan Young. She adored her four great-grandchildren, Arthur and Martha Wilder and Brooks and Olive Leonard, all of Chincoteague. She is also survived by three sisters, Peggy Thomas, Carolyn Bowden, and Bonnie Saunders; and one brother, Don Cherrix.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, at Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague Island, with a viewing one hour prior.
