The voice of Accomack and Northampton counties on Virginia’s Eastern Shore

Terry Sargent

Aug 1, 2025 | Obituaries

Mr. Terry Lynn Sargent, 60, of Onley, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Shore Health & Rehabilitation in Parksley.

Born July 15, 1965, in Campton, Ky., Terry was the youngest of seven children of the late William Mort Sargent and Betty Ruth Sargent. He grew up in Middletown, Ohio, where his love for fast cars and motorcycles took root. Even as a young boy, Terry had a gift for fixing just about anything — if it had wheels or an engine, he could make it run.

As a teenager, Terry moved with his family to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, where he met the love of his life, Margaret Crockett. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter, raising their son, T.J., and later welcoming the next generation as proud grandparents.

Terry was happiest with the wind in his hair and the open road before him — riding his bike down the Shore’s back roads, classic rock pouring from the speakers. Ozzy, Bob Seger, and AC/DC were his favorites, and his prized Camaro with vertical doors was a symbol of his free spirit and pride.

A natural jokester with a heart of gold, Terry had a way of making people feel at ease. His sense of humor, quick wit, and generous nature meant he never met a stranger — and if someone needed help, he was the first to offer it. He worked for many years in the Public Works Department for the Town of Onancock, where his reliability and hard work left a lasting impression.

Family meant everything to Terry. He kept in touch with his siblings back in Ohio and they always adored their baby brother. His absence leaves a space no one else can fill.

Terry is survived by his wife, Margaret Crockett Sargent, of Onley; his son, Terry Jay “T.J.” Sargent, of Onley; his sisters, Gwendolyn Kay Baltimore (Geno), of Elkhart, Ind.; Connie Lenora Sargent, of Dayton, Ohio; Teresa Ann Carter (Timothy), of Middletown; and Lanita Mae Gilbert (Rex), of Franklin, Ohio; his brother, Billy Dwayne Sargent, of Middletown; his grandchildren, Kandace Sargent, Jordan Sargent, Bridget Sargent, and Brayden Sargent; his mother-in-law, Maggie Bundick, of Accomac; his sisters-in-law, Carletta Sargent, of Dayton, Lou Ann Lewis (John Harold), of Accomac, and Cheryl Bloxom, of Parksley; his brother-in-law, David Bundick (Sarah Ramsey), of Accomac; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Eddie Eugene Sargent; his sister-in-law, Karen Sargent; and his father-in-law, Linwood Bundick.

Per Terry’s request, there will be no public service. Those who wish to honor his memory are invited to take a back road drive, turn up the music, and enjoy the ride — just the way Terry would have wanted.
