Dr. Kay Moore, 86, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at her residence in Westminster Canterbury in Virginia Beach.

Kay was born Aug. 9, 1938, to the late John K. and Willie B. Moore in Baton Rouge, La.

She graduated from University High School, on the Louisiana State University campus, at the age 15. She graduated from LSU as an “Outstanding Student in the College of Arts and Sciences” at the age of 18.

She always knew that she wanted to be a physician and enrolled in LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. She became a plastic surgeon, practicing in Baton Rouge. Unfortunately, she fell victim to carpal tunnel syndrome and lost the dexterity necessary for this delicate surgery. She started over with a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation and became a physiatrist. She practiced in Montgomery, Ala. until her retirement. After retiring, she moved to Virginia Beach.

Apart from her career, her passion was world travel. She loved birds, nature, and chocolate. The city of New Orleans was also very special to her.

She is survived by a brother, James (Jim) Moore and his wife, Margaret, of Exmore, and their children, Leslie Holt (James), Julie Mabalot (Ben), and Stephen Moore, and their families.

She will be deeply missed and her family will always carry her memory in their hearts.
