May 30, 2025 | Obituaries

Mr. Henry Perry, 68, of Parksley, husband of the late Ruth Virginia Mae Redmond Perry, passed away on May 25, 2025, in Parksley.

Born on Oct. 14, 1956, in Pound, he was the son of the late Melvin Perry and Clara Bell Cox Perry. Henry worked for Branscome Incorporated as a paving equipment operator for over 20 years. He also maintained landscapes for numerous people in the Parksley area. Henry was a man of few words but would absolutely tell you his opinion. He had one speed, but you could always count on him to get the job done.

Henry was a beloved employee of Thornton Funeral Home for almost 40 years. Known as Carl’s right-hand man, Henry was as loyal, trustworthy, and dedicated as they come. He was a constant calm and steady presence at the funeral home and his never-in-a-hurry demeanor will be sorely missed by the whole Thornton family.

Henry is survived by a son, Chris Perry, of Parksley, an adopted daughter, Vickie Donovan, of Parksley; and his step-children, Teresa “Terry” Donovan, of Belle Haven, Lori Rogers (Burt), of Painter, and Gene Donovan (Karen), of Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters, Shirley Tilghman, of Parksley, and Carolyn Mullins, of Pound; and a brother, Gary Perry, of Painter; his grandchildren, Brad, Travis, Austin, Nathan, Brittany, Laura Beth,  Aaron, Joseph, Cody, Derrick, and Gina; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Other than his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by siblings Willie Perry and Debrah Kay Taylor.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 30, at 4 p.m. from the Thornton Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Welch officiating. A celebration of life will be held at Off the Rails following the service, graciously hosted by G.W. and Kelly Hart.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Parksley Volunteer Fire Company at P.O. Box 14, Parksley, VA 23421.

Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
