Worries about the impacts

of bird flu’s mutations

To the editor:

If you watched the “60 Minutes” episode on April 20 about bird flu, you heard scientists express grave concerns about our preparedness for this rapidly changing (mutating) disease.

Although harm to us is minimal so far, the outlook is that it will be far, far worse than COVID-19 and that very little is being done to fight the inevitable.

I wrote my congressional representatives, governor, president, the Centers for Disease Control, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture,  but I’m afraid we have yet another cause to organize for.

Funds for the flu are being spent, in part, to bring down the cost of eggs with too little concern for the potentially grave impacts on families.

Has gratitude for flat-tire help

To the editor:

I would like to commend the special people who stopped to offer to change a flat tire at Roses’ parking lot at Four Corner Plaza — one being a landscaper from Onancock who came back and stayed with us until AAA arrived 1 1/2 hours later.

We were in a new vehicle with a brand new tire and it appears as though somewhere between the Island House and Roses we ran over a part of a knife.

Unfortunately we didn’t get their names. I thank them with sincere appreciation and gratitude. There are many special people out there.
