Mrs. Virginia “Ginny” May Lester Rose, 83, of Vaucluse Shores, surrounded by loved ones, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Her family is certain she was met at heaven’s gates by the one and only love of her life, her predeceased husband, Dudley Rose. Those two lovebirds met when Ginny, the daughter of a coal miner, was just a 15-year-old girl living in the Appalachian holler of Doran. Dudley and Ginny spent their long life together and were usually inseparable. They are surely now spending eternity together. Her family isn’t sure, but if heaven has a kitchen or a garden, Ginny is busy baking treats for everyone there or pruning a garden.

Ginny was one of 11 children born to, and was predeceased by, her parents, Homer Carl Lester and Cordie May Asbury Lester. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Rodger Lee, Billy Harold, Darrell Randolph, Donnie, and Lonnie Lester; a sister, Brenda Lester; and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by her daughters, Connie Simpson and her husband, Barry; Jeana Padon and her husband, Michael; and her son, Richard Rose and his wife, Amber. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ridge Rose, James Logan, Morgan Rose (and fiancée Laura Lutz), Andria Hopson, Heidi Padgett, Georgia Hopson, Ryan Padon, and Gabby Padon.

Ginny’s surviving siblings include sisters, Betty Duty, Alice Kinder, and Bonnie Van Dyke. She is survived by one brother, Danny Lester, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ginny’s viewing was on Monday, April 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Doughty’s Funeral Home in Exmore. Graveside services were held at Johnsontown United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Johnson’s United Methodist Church, c/o Brenda Floyd, 4198 Pear Plain Lane, Machipongo, VA 23405.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.doughtyfuneralhome.com

Arrangements were made by Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore.
