Police had few answers Monday, March 24, when an unknown man crashed an unregistered motorcycle with an unidentifiable VIN number south of Cheriton.

Police said the man, who was not wearing a helmet, was unidentifiable after he was ejected from the motorcycle and hit a utility pole.

“Identification will be determined by the medical examiner, who will notify next of kin,” said State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya.

She later identified the deceased man as Abelardo Gonzalez-Demers, 20, of Bluebird Road, in the Bayview community near Cheriton.

At 6:16 p.m., state police responded to a single vehicle motorcycle crash in the area of 23348 Fairview Road, south of Seaview Drive, in Fairview.

Upon arrival, Gonzalez-Demers was found to be dead from injuries sustained in the crash.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that he was traveling above the posted speed limit, lost control of the motorcycle, and ran off the roadway and into a ditch.

After running into the ditch, he was thrown into the utility pole.

The motorcycle was unregistered, with an unidentifiable vehicle identification number or VIN.

While speed was a contributing factor, it is unknown at this time if alcohol factored into the crash, Anaya said.
