Mrs. Rhonda Denise Hernandez-Sanchez, 64, of Parksley, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in Onancock.
Born on July 17, 1960, in Anna, Ill., Rhonda was the daughter of Teddy Earl and Wilma Holderfield. Rhonda and her family lived in Cobden, Ill., for most of their lives. She found her true calling when she started her family. She had five girls and loved them with every ounce of her heart. And once her grandbabies were born, her life was complete.
Rhonda hosted most holidays and loved to bake and cook for her family. Her brownies and macaroni salad tasted like a little piece of heaven to her daughters and grandchildren.
She moved to the Eastern Shore of Virginia in 2005 to help take care of her grandchildren. Not soon afterwards, the rest of the family followed suit. Always a lover of horses, Rhonda was in her element when the family would take short trips up to Chincoteague Island. With Garth Brooks blasting on the radio and laughter in the car, they made memories that will last a lifetime.
Rhonda was creative and enjoyed cross-stitch and creating paint-by-number horse paintings. With “The Ranch” or “Little House on the Prairie” on the television, Rhonda sat in the living room and patiently made every grandchild his or her own blanket until the numbers of grandchildren far exceeded two dozen — and then she would make the trip to Walmart and buy the blanket.
Rhonda was the rock of the family. Always sweet and attentive, her daughters knew they could rely on her to make a bad situation better or just lend a hand. She was the best mom, wife, sister, and grandmother that anyone could ever ask for.
Rhonda is survived by her husband of almost 18 years, Jose Hernandez-Sanchez; her daughters, Amanda Garcia, Jennifer Borjas, Ashley Hernandez, Kimberly Aguilar, and Natalia Cruz; her sister, Lisa Holderfield-Hubbs; her brother, Vincent Roberts; many, many sweet grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, Misty and Brandi Holderfield; and many extended family members and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Teddy Earl and Wilma Holderfield.
A service is being planned in Illinois. Rhonda will be interred with her family at Cobden Cemetery in Cobden.
