Mrs. Geraldine “Geri” A. Chick, 86, passed away on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at Commonwealth Senior Living in Onancock, just eight days after the passing of her husband, Gerald W. Chick.
Geri was a longtime former resident of Toms River, N.J., before settling in Schooner Bay, Onancock, following a couple of brief moves along the way. She and Gerald found the Eastern Shore of Virginia to be their sanctuary and quickly acquired a multitude of friends who eventually transitioned into extended family.
Born Nov. 18, 1938, in Jersey City, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Edward E. Ross and Florence B. Ross. Geri was a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Orange, N.J., and served as a school nurse for 12 years at Bradley Beach School. She was active in the Monmouth County School Nurses & Teachers Association and after moving to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, she became a health educator with Eastern Shore Rural Health and later retired from the Maryland school system.
Geri lived a life full of faith, love, kindness, and dedication. She was involved in Eucharistic ministries at both St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, in Toms River, and then St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, in Onley. She and Gerald initiated the Compassionate Friends Chapter on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and they both had served on the board of the Compassionate Friends Chapter in Ocean County, N.J.
Geri was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Gerald W. Chick, and their children, Edward Martin Chick and Donna Lynn Chick, with whom she is now reunited.
Survivors include her brother-in-law, Francis H. Chick Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Bricktown, N.J.; her sister-in-law, Diane Chick, of Red Bank, N.J.; and her nieces and nephews, Marybeth Kelley and her husband, Michael, Melanie Bock and her husband, Bob, Timothy Botti and his wife, Pat, William Chick and his wife, Gina, Craig Chick, Edward John Chick, Bryan Chick and his wife, Novelle, Anthony Chick, and Lisa Ham and her husband, Steve, as well as a foster son, Duran Bryant, and his wife, Kelly, and several great-nieces, great-nephews and godchildren.

Those friends are heartbroken but Geri’s compassion, guidance, and unwavering affection will live on with her devoted friends, Sue Elliott and her husband, Rick; Wanda Caffrey and her husband, Joe; Rebecca Crutchley and her husband, Barry; and Brittley Fitchett and her fiancé, Cole Tyson.
