The Accomack County Board of Supervisors voted to unanimously approve the draft of an agreement for Northampton County to cover tuition costs of its employees to attend basic or advanced EMT EMS training courses in Accomack.

Currently Northampton County contributes financially for its public safety employees to attend the Fire Academy in Melfa for short-term training or classes.

It also contributes toward the cost of operating the Fire Training Center in Melfa.

This memorandum of understanding delineates terms between the counties regarding the tuition costs and dictating tuition must be paid in advance and is considered nonrefundable.

Accomack provides no warranty to Northampton that its trainees will complete or pass courses.  It also retains the right to refuse a trainee or to expel them for reasons such as, but not limited to, poor attendance or unprofessional behavior.

The agreement also allows that equivalent compensation may come in the form of in-kind services, so long as it is equal to the value of the training. This could include Northampton County providing qualified recruit academy instructors.

However, these individuals would not receive a salary or any benefits accorded a similar Accomack County employee.

This memorandum will commence when signed by both parties and continue until terminated by one or both.
