Mrs. Maryon Virginia Timm Womble, 93, of Cheriton, passed away on Dec. 25, 2024.
Maryon was born to William John Timm and Marion Virginia Leech Timm on July 19, 1931, in Mount Vernon, N.Y.
While vacationing in Virginia Beach one summer, her father spotted the Eastern Shore on the map and thought it would be a less commercialized and quiet place to vacation. This first venture across the bay would be the start of many memorable family vacations and meeting of lifelong friends on the Eastern Shore. It would be where Maryon would meet her future husband, Stewart P. Womble.
Prior to getting married, she obtained her degree from Katharine Gibbs School in New York and promptly began her career working at the Ad Council in New York City. Maryon and Stewart married and settled in Cheriton, a place that she loved, and raised their family.
She enjoyed various administrative jobs, but her greatest joys were her family and serving in her church, Cheriton Baptist. Her many tasks at Cheriton Baptist Church included Sunday School teacher, Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) president, Operation Christmas Child coordinator, and various other mission work. One of her daily habits was to pray for the Missionaries of the North American Mission Board (NAMB) and the International Mission Board (IMB).
Maryon was very active in the Garden Club of the Eastern Shore and enjoyed floral arranging as well as helping out with Garden Week, serving at Eyre Hall. In her active years, she also enjoyed playing a round of golf with friends and there was always the game of bridge. She loved the game and she adored the friendship and laughter of her dear friends in the club.
Maryon lived her life relying on her Lord Jesus Christ, who sustained her and, as she said, gave her a happy heart. Her happy heart was evident to all who knew her or met her for the briefest moment.
Maryon was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Stewart.
She is survived by her brother, Marshall Timm (Patty); her children, Sallie James (Frank) and Debbie Vanlandingham (Tommy); her grandchildren, Stewart Coleman James (Katie) and Sarah J. Argüello (Norman); her great-grandchildren, Emerson Grace James, Delaney Claire James, Xavier Allan Argüello, Maryon Josephine Argüello, and Vivienne Frances Argüello; and her cousins, Jennifer Lynch (Derek Weitzel) and Christopher Lynch (Megan).
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at Cheriton Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Peterson officiating. A private interment followed at Cape Charles Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Cheriton Baptist Church, P.O. Box 227, Cheriton, VA 23316.
The family of Maryon Womble wishes to extend its sincere thanks to her home caregivers and those at Commonwealth Assisted Living.
