Cape Charles Town Manager John Hozey will retire mid-year in 2025, and the search for his replacement is underway.
The process began in September, after Cape Charles hired international consulting firm Baker Tilly, headquartered in Chicago, to recruit candidates for the town manager position.
The Cape Charles Town Council is currently interviewing three candidates.
The successful job applicant likely will start work in mid-April, allowing a one-month transition period before Hozey retires in mid-May.
Hozey is participating in the hiring process, including sitting in on interviews, he said.
He also plans to give the new town manager a tour of Cape Charles, introduce him or her to the town’s department directors, and introduce the new town manager to residents at a community reception in the spring.
Hozey is from Wallops Island and was born and raised in Philadelphia.
Among his previous professional experiences, he spent a decade as the city manager of another small, rural, coastal town — Valdez, Alaska.
Hozey has been the town manager of Cape Charles since March 2020.
His most recent accomplishments as town manager have included guiding the Cape Charles Town Council in developing regulations for short-term vacation rentals.
