Mr. Robert Lee Miller, 87, affectionately known as “Bobby” to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on Nov. 21, 2024, at Tidal Health in Salisbury, Md.
Born on Dec. 4, 1936, in Withams, Bobby was a beacon of light and joy in the lives of all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a doting grandfather/great-grandfather, and a cherished friend.
Bobby’s early life in Withams set the stage for a lifetime of dedication and hard work. He was the son of the late Tom and Louise Miller and brother to his late sisters, Mary Lou Justice (Jimmy) and Audrey Davis (Billy).
Bobby’s journey led him to the love of his life, Betty Jean Miller, with whom he shared countless cherished moments and 68 years of marriage. Together they built a beautiful family, raising their daughter, Teresa, and welcoming their son-in-law, Bucky Dennig, into the family fold. He was also known as “Uncle Bobby” to many nieces and nephews.
Professionally, Bobby was known for his strong work ethic and leadership skills. He managed Kellam’s Gas, Sharp Energy, and Pep Up Inc., where he was respected by his colleagues and employees alike.
His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his involvement in his community, where he was known as a friendly and selfless individual who always put others first. A beloved mentor to countless young athletes throughout his life, he coached Little League baseball and high school football, inspiring and nurturing the talents of generations of players.
However, Bobby’s most cherished team was the team that knew him as “Pop Pop.” His legacy continues through his grandsons, Rob Godwin (Stephanie) and Brooks Godwin (Heather), and his granddaughter, Kirstin Ikeda (Michael “Casey”), as well as his treasured great-grandchildren, Grace, Ava, Kamryn, Ryder, Maverick, Grant, and Quinn. His role as a grandfather was one he adored deeply, and the memories created during those precious moments will be held close by his family forever.
Those who knew Bobby will remember him as a man of great character —loving, selfless, and friendly. His warm smile, bright blue eyes, and generous spirit were his trademarks, and he had a remarkable ability to make each person he met feel valued and important.
As we say goodbye to “Pop Pop,” we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. Please join his family for a celebration of life being held on Nov. 30 at Salem Church in Pocomoke City. A visitation an hour prior will be held at 10 a.m. The service will be held at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon.
