Mrs. Frances Ann Hill, 90, of Chincoteague, died on Nov. 9, 2024, at Tidal Health in Salisbury, Md.

She was born in Selma, Ala., on Aug. 24, 1934, to the late Richard and Ada Mae Hooks. Ann was a devoted and loving member of her family and community. She enjoyed sharing her love of God by teaching Sunday school and being an active member of her church. Her loving and generous nature could be felt by all who knew her. She was a loving mother and the quintessential grandmother, the matriarch of five generations that will forever be influenced by her deep compassion and never-ending generosity.

In her many years of living on Chincoteague Island, she was an active member of her community. After years of loving and caring for her family, she got her beautician license. Ann co-owned the Carousel Beauty Shop and Island Decoys with her husband, Jack.

She was a former member of Union Baptist Church, then moved on to join the Church of God (Church by the Beach). Ann also enjoyed attending Lighthouse Ministries with her daughter, Jackie. She served on the board of Women’s Aglow for many years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending winters in Florida.

Ann was preceded in death by her father, Richard Monroe Hooks; her mother, Ada Mae (Pat) Hill; her stepfather, Howard Hill; her siblings, Patricia, Barbara, and Richard; and her children, Vicki Kern and Johnny Hill.

She is survived by her beloved daughter Jacqueline (Bill) Duffield; her sister, Toni Kasko; her grandchildren, Rebecca Mills, James (Jen) Pruitt, Rachel (Jimmy) Seymour, Jessica Pruitt, Mischelle (John) Thornes, Julie Hill, and Ben Kenney.

A celebration of life will be held at Church By The Beach on Chincoteague Island on Friday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Kevin Stanley and Pastor Kevin Wilson officiating.
